Microsoft has introduced Windows 7 E version as a backlash to the claims made by the European government regarding Internet Explorer. The EU filed antitrust case against Microsoft for bundling IE with Windows and thereby exploiting the dominant position in the market. The government stated that, “Microsoft’s tying of Internet Explorer to the Windows operating system harms competition between web browsers, undermines product innovation, and ultimately reduces consumer choice."
Windows7 E version is an answer to this which proves Microsoft to be abiding by the laws. The E version is without any web browser and hence the European markets will availed with the Windows without any web browser now so that they can utilize any web browser of their choice. However, the question remains HOW? If there is no web browser at all how is it possible to download any web browser?
Microsoft has given detailed information regarding installing Windows 7 E on their website. However, the instruction also includes one extra step for the customers of Europe regarding saving the preferred browser on some external hard drive. Hence, the European customers of Windows 7 will have to save the web browser on CD, DVD, or USB or any other storage medium and install the web browser once the Windows 7 is installed completely.
This is a very genius step taken by Microsoft as it will show them to be following the laws as well as they will be able to get some more income by providing additional CD’s of web browser with the OS.
