Five Common Misconceptions about SEO

Posted By - James John

SEO has evolved to be one of the most crucial fields in this dotcom world. It is a field with high dynamism as the search engines are introducing various new tools and means every now and then to upgrade their technology and provide the online users with far better control over their searches. However if you are new to the field of SEO then it is better to start off by clarifying certain popular misconceptions associated with it.

Misconception no.1: Generally, people believe that if they get more traffic to their websites that means they will get higher ranks on the search engines but this is not true. Your site is ranked higher on the search engines only if your site having quality back links and SEO friendly website structure. The search engines find the number of the websites that are linking to your website. This shows the popularity of your website. You can read important search engine optimization techniques posted earlier.

Misconception no.2: Promotion of only home page is another popular misconception that SEO fresher have. It is necessary to promote all the web pages for better ranking on the search engines.

Misconception no.3: Just getting more sites to link you for gaining high page ranks on search engine. Obtaining inbound links is very essential as it can not only provide you with higher ranks but will also provide you with better and relevant traffic. Therefore, make sure that the link to your website comes from good and relevant websites.

Misconception no.4: Your website ranked no. 1 but with not an appropriate keyword, yet it is good for you as you got it ranked on first position. This is the biggest mistake that you can ever make. If your website is not listed for correct or appropriate keyword then the 1st rank on any other keyword is equivalent to having no good rank as you will not get relevant business through it. So target appropriate keywords.

Misconception no.5: many a times the SEO fresher thinks that filling up Meta keywords tag is enough, but this is not true. The Meta keywords tag does not have much of impact on the search engines and therefore it will not aid in attaining higher page ranks on search engines.

I totally agree with the 5 mistakes you have pointed out. I would probably add also that people think that if their page gets massive exposure overnight it's worth the money, but that is a common misconception. Usually, companies that promise that they will get 100 links per day tend to be a rip off. It's either not true or in the best case scenarios, they will submit their site to rubbish directories or similar. In order to track the quality of links and all of the SEO steps I suggest the Analytics package we are using at at Dizzy Heights. They are called AnalyticsSEO and this is their link: analyticsseo.com I thought you and your readers could find this info interesting as it is really relevant to the article you have written. Cheers, Meri

Hey Meri, I am totally agree with your comments, Bulk promotion will negatively affect your SEO campaign and may get your rankings down too. these days, search engine boats are getting more advance analysis and may give penalties too.

Thanks for sharing your view. I would like to focus on some topics too. 1) I am not sure about the first option - In found in google webmaster blog that they will give you no#1 if you optimize well and also they rank you if good numbers of visitors comes to your site. 2) Yes, absolutely right we should concentrate on other pages too. 3) Yes, Page rank formula (if google follow it) depends on the numbers of inbound pages so others pages links back definitely give you good rank. 4) yes, keywords optimization is the primary and major part. 5) Meta tag obsolete now a days.

@Suvabrata thanks for your feedback, As you are bit confuse about my point one, i would like to add few details for the same. You must be aware that, people are thinking that, if you will get more visitors that your rankings will rise but the fact is, it wont help more in rankings. But still i will prefer to increase the traffic if i will get it from relevant website. as it will improve ROI of my website. regarding to meta tags than Title and meta description tag is still important in rankings where meta keywords tag is absolute these days (yahoo is still using meta keyword tag and giving small weight to it) kindly let me know if you have any query or want to participate in Guest blogger at our website. thanks james
